Elegant Retrohemian Chateau: Home Tour, Mudroom and Family Room
We took this bare rear entry from drab to French fab. Paint, custom cabinets and lighting did the trick! First, toning down the lavender walls to a soothing cool gray helped highlight the beautiful pre-existing trimwork. Then we dreamed up this custom cabinetry that offers a bench for throwing on heels or boots to then be stored underneath at day's end. With its substantial height, there are shelves galore for this entertainer's overflow of linens and such. The brass square knobs and appliance pulls complete the elevated mudroom look. Lastly, we upgraded the lighting with an aqua-dropped brass chain-like chandelier and a coordinating sconce. This collection captured the modern French elegance that we infused throughout the home, enabling this corner to feel like a special "warm welcome" rather than a forgotten entryway.
We reworked the layout of their family room by placing their existing sofas opposite of each other where they were once adjacent to each other, creating a more open floor plan, centered around conversation. The clients were reluctant at first to the change mainly because they had no floor outlet, but after one week of enjoying the new arrangement, they were sold! We simply hired a team to add in a floor outlet so they could fully enjoy their fun lamps!
Because our happy clients love happy colors, we selected a vivacious rug with matching lamps, vibrant artwork, tufted ottomans and brass occasional tables. Not pictured is an oyster white French cane chair for the patriarch to enjoy in place of his tired recliner. We are pleased to report that he loves his chair and their grandson is a BIG fan of climbing ALL over their ottomans. All these details helped capture their love of all things French while refreshing this family-focused room in an approachable way.
